*The Mysterious Case of the midnight tacos (SXS’ouch) /JUNO Madness/ H is for Holland *
An update of us Twilight’s latest adventures is definitely in order. It has been a while.
We have travelled all around in the last few months.

Our first adventure of 2009 was heading out on a short tour with The Fugitives out to Alberta.
What fine folks these fugitives are. They all have quite the sense of humour and a wonderful way with words.
We felt like old friends after only 4 or 5 shows. We are going to guest on their new album and we look forward to seeing there fine faces again.

After a month of solitude in old Winnipeg we took the 24 hour drive down to Austin, Texas to attend the infamous, South by Southwest Music Festival.
We kind of new what we were getting into as we have purposely avoided the thing for a few years now.
We figured we may as well go and see what kind of trouble we can get into.
Trouble we did get into.
Trouble had the face of an evil taco!
Served by a man in a suit out of the trunk of a mercedes?
Who would have thought?
Well….being the trusting, king, polite canadians we are we didn’t think that maybe, well, when it comes out of a trunk it may have not been refrigerated well enough?
We ate these evil tacos the first night there and woke up the next morning to an awful feeling in our stomachs.
Well ,this was a first folks, Dave and I both sick on the road, at the same time! And I mean SICK!

So we cancelled one show cause we were puking our guts out but continued with the rest of the weekend gigs spreading our new motto around…… “If it comes from a trunk, it’s junk!”

It made for a very interesting time. We didn’t really feel like we were back to normal for a week. I think we each lost some pounds from that evil taco bug.

One of the funniest, yet saddest parts of our adventure to Austin was when I got shocked by a microphone and cried my eyes out on stage!

Yes, it’s true, on an empty, painful stomach I was feeling a little weak and I was playing through an amp that wasn’t properly grounded. I touched the mic and got the shock of my life! I mean I have been shocked many times before, but this really took the cake! It hurt pretty bad, so my reaction was tears. Luckily, It was an outdoor gig and I had sunglasses on. Phew! Dave had to take lead on a couple of songs till I could gain composure. My Gosh!!!
That was a first. There goes my whole tough guy attitude, eh? ;)

Our next adventure was flying to Vancouver for the JUNOS. No, we didn’t win this time but we were sure happy that our fellow Winnipeggers, Chic Gamine took it home. Winnipeg is taking over the Roots world!
We attended many flashly parties, tried to take advantage of the ever-flowing free booze but we really don’t drink much. It was pretty clear that we really knew nobody and felt pretty silly at times standing around trying to look “cool”. It didn’t seem like any “cool” people were there anyways. Hawksley Workman was there though, he sat a table near by. I was trying to build up my courage and go introduce myself but I failed to do so.
We had a really fun show with a line-up outside the door and music fans standing around the stage. It was a real high energy gig. We had some time hanging out with our always amazing publicist Ken Beattie. He is one of the hardest working guys in the business! I have to say that the highlight was the interview on the “juno-couch”. Terry David Mulligan, a host for CKUA, had us, Divine Brown, Steve Dawson and a member of Loverboy on the couch for a short interview. What nice folks.
Well, waking the red-carpet was pretty fun as well.
We had no clue what to do so we just kind- of followed people who did know.
It was pretty funny being photographed by 40 camera’s all at once! Dave decided that he would kiss me on the cheek….the photographers loved it and asked us if it was like a “Tom and Katie” thing?
I really had no idea what he meant so I just said, “Man, It’s even better.”
Whatever.
I still can’t believe that some of the photos made it in with all the ‘high-profile’ artists on a few websites.
I guess you don’t have to be famous you just have to look the part, or look hot?

Our next adventure led us to Holland, specifically Utrecht, a town in the middle of the country for the Blue Highway Americana Festival. It was in true “Rock n Roll” style that we travelled there as it was only for one show. It was well worth it! European audiences never let us down. They are incredible.
We had a few days off so we took a train to Amsterdam and had a romantic time. Yes, we hit up a few ‘coffeeshops’, willie nelson coffee that is, had a few heineken’s on the street and walked to where the red lights shine in the night. Ahhh…what a time. We are excited to travel back to to Europe in the fall for a extensive tour.

I should really get back to the ever looming taxes. I am currently filing reciepts for 2005. Yes, we are little behind!
I’ll flip the Calexico record and get back to work.

Just a short mention here that we are currently working on ideas for the next record. If anyone has any ideas as to who they would like to see us work with or what songs should go on the album we would love the feedback. Feedback from our fans is always valuable.

Much love to y’all.

I will be posting pics from all these adventures on myspace , facebook and our official website very soon so check back often!
