Lyrics

When the Wolves Go Blind

Brandy Zdan/Dave Quanbury/Laura Badoni (Twilight Hotel Music)

blindfolds on my feet and whispers in my ear
take away this ever-growing fear
you will need my power, travel through the night
hollow bone, headlight eyes and wingspan wide

I’ll be free, I’ll be free, when the wolves go blind

A dying breed we are, you and I
Perfectly preserved from another time
Turn off the life support and I’ll breath on my own
Suffer till you know what you were before

I’ll be free, I’ll be free, when the wolves go blind
I’ll be free, I’ll be free, when the wolves go blind

Summoned out of darkness you have made me bleed
Words remain unspoken you must now pay heed
Even as the hands tie fists mirror your eyes
The road will hold you as a mother soft and warm

I’ll be free, I’ll be free, when the wolves go blind
I’ll be free, I’ll be free, when the wolves go blind

Even the rich cry, even the rich cry,
When the wolves go blind

What do I Know About Love?

Dave Quanbury (Twilight Hotel Music)

Love doesn’t make the world go round
It holds it in its place
You squirm all you want for it to let you go
You can never get out of its embrace

Love doesn’t make the world go round
Leave you standing still
Love will give a fool a crown
Make a queen slave to its will
What do I know about love?

Love doesn’t make the stars shine
At the end of everyday
You fumble in the dark for direction
You can never find your way

Love doesn’t make the stars shine
Doesn’t light the moon
Love will only leave you blind
To everything else in the room

What do I know about love?

Love doesn’t get you home on time
Doesn’t pay the bills
Can’t do what you want when you want to
You’ve got to wait until it comes around

Love doesn’t get tuck you in at night
Doesn’t hold your hand
You can’t get nothing accomplished
When you’ve got love making all your plans

what do I know about love

Mahoganny Veneer

Dave Quanbury (Twilight Hotel Music)

I met you in the forest where the Borealis shine
And every fish in that old lake could tell that you were mine
We sang there to each other and the falls they lent an ear
My old life fell away like mahogany veneer

When we got to New York City
All our dreams were waiting there
Pennies in our pockets and sunshine in our hair
We stood out on the ferry and the wind was at our cheek
We scanned our new horizons and the vastness made us weep

We fell in love with Memphis
With it’s muddy, bleeding heart
Down on Union Street their taking rock n’ roll apart
The sunset on the delta, the whistle of the train
And all the boarded buildings, made me long for Winnipeg

When we got to New Orleans, we found a city on its knees
Homes hung with shadows and streets lined with weeds
We went down to the old quarter and not a soul was there
The mighty Mississippi as silent as a prayer

Driving cross Saskatchewan, the road straight as a knife
We learned that Terry Berg had taken his own life
Did his hand betray his conscience?
Was he lost or was he found?
We hauled sixteen hours back just to put him in the ground

On the night we left Nashville
Johnny’s house was burning down
We crossed into Kentucky in the dark without a sound
The radio was static, the moon was out of sight
I watched you sleep beside me and turned off the dashboard light

The Master

Brandy Zdan/Dave Quanbury (Twilight Hotel Music)

I am a petty thief holding my heart hostage
I cannot manage to pay the ransom
Been holding on, been holding on so tight

This grip can’t hold forever
When it comes to holding on
I am a master, a master
of holding on, holding on
a master, a master

I will not let you in for
I will not let you in for
I will not let you in for
I will not let you in for a second

Dream of Letting Go

Dave Quanbury (Twilight Hotel Music)

Frozen Town

Brandy Zdan/Dave Quanbury (Twilight Hotel Music)

Light up that cigarette fingers exposed
It’s the first one in months and I blame the cold
In a Frozen Town

Now that I’m back in town
I don’t want me around
Hangnails and coat tails
the snow sounds like crushed rails
and I’ve failed at leaving on time
In a Frozen Town

The bus driver sleeps corner of Graham & Vaughn
The coming of a new day, the breaking of a dawn
In a Frozen Town

Windermere, Windermere
Steaming away in a century old way
I call out the names of the ghosts of this place
That has loved us and locks us up tight
In a Frozen Town

And it’s too cold
It’s too cold for car thieves tonight
And it’s too cold
It’s too cold for car thieves
And everyone’s hanging on
In a Frozen Town

In a Frozen Town
Everyone is hanging on
In a Frozen Town

The Darkness

Brandy Zdan (Twilight Hotel Music)

Oh I have seen the Darkness
I have seen the Darkness
Oh the loneliness

Ham Radio Blues

Dave Quanbury(Twilight Hotel Music)

Twelve bells all is well
Coast to coast with Art Bell
You can tune us in on the Bakelite
If you’re up all night

What a night another late night
Chasing through the corn after strange lights
I’ve got a cold sweat and clammy feet
It’s not a side effect from DDT

Longtime listener wishing you well
Sounded like Elvis but you never can tell
First time caller just got through with the new
Ham radio blues

Shape shifting lizards little green men
Carry out the details of the master plan
They got mental decoders on fishing nets
You can look it up on the Internet

Longtime listener wishing you well
Sounded like Elvis but you never can tell
First time caller just got through with the new
Ham Radio Blues

Dim ethyl hydrate and turpentine
we’ve got another quack on the wild card line
I think his brain has gone to his head
I picked it up but the line went dead
I picked it up but the line went dead

Longtime listener wishing you well
Sounded like Elvis but you never can tell
First time caller just got through with the new
Ham radio blues

Longtime listener wishing you well
Sounded like Elvis but you never can tell
First time caller just got through with the new
Ham radio blues

Ham radio blues
Ham radio blues
Ham radio blues

Golden Eagle

Brandy Zdan (Twilight Hotel Music)

Do you lead with your stomach or with your heart
Would your love be strong enough to hold up shelter
Or would it fall apart
Would your love be strong enough to grow a seed
Would it lay helpless in the dusty dirt unable to breathe

I am your Golden Eagle
Can we listen to the wind

Dust and dirt, flesh and blood
This is what we’re made of
Your mind may wander, your heart may weep
Wash your eyes, and turn your ears over to me
Listen closely

I am your Golden Eagle
Can we listen to the wind

What kind of love
Takes you far away
What kind of love
Makes you stay

Can we listen to the wind

Poor & Hungry

Dave Quanbury (Twilight Hotel Music)

She got a natural high
Every time he said goodbye
He was everything right
And his only reply

She had a natural smile
No one ever saw her cry
And he had no way of knowing
What she’d been through before

Poor and hungry
Poor and hungry
Poor and hungry in the high noon

He walked into her life
Like a Christmas parade
Kept his history hid
Found a cause to save

He was attracted to her
Like the moon on a river
Never leading her astray
Always knew just what to say

And she swallowed it whole
All the stories he told
And the romance unfolded
Like the petals of a rose

She was charmed by his habits
All the roads he traveled
But the truth it unravels
Like your favorite sweater sleeve
Oh he had to leave her

Poor and hungry
poor and hungry
poor and hungry in the high noon

When I’m Gone

Brandy Zdan/Dave Quanbury (Twilight Hotel Music)

Don’t bury me underground
In a wooden box with walls around
Leave my bones bare
And I will become the river

Weather me in an old farmyard
Till my seat springs are bare
All my shiny parts will dim like dusk
And rust out in the air

Don’t bury me underground
In a wooden box with walls around
Leave my bones bare
And I will become the river

Carry me through the run off thaw
Down the hill and through the tress
Till the autumn leaves cover me
Like a song

Don’t bury me underground
In a wooden box with walls around
Leave my bones bare
And I will become the river

When I’m gone
When I’m gone
When I’m gone
When I’m gone

Shine on me silver moon
Lean my head and take my breath
Forgive me when the wind moves on
The prairie

Don’t bury me underground
In a wooden box with walls around
Leave my bones bare
And I will become the river

When I’m gone
When I’m gone
When I’m gone
When I’m gone
