Reviews

In his continuing solo work after Tequila Mockingbird, singer/guitarist Dave Quanbury teams up with Brandy Zdan for this bluesy/rootsy acoustic outing presented in sparse and delicate instrumentation reminiscent of the work of Jim Byrnes. While Quanbury’s musical talent is obvious, Zdan’s voice is the inimitable highlight of the disc. On the George Gershwin/Dubose Heyward tune Summertime, her vocals are smoky, sexy and sultry as she wanders in and out of Quanbury’s lead guitar, while in Another Time Another Place, she is effortlessly powerful and clear. Her backing harmonies on Impatient Love and Honeysuckle Rose are also a nice touch, but this outfit is at its best when Quanbury is deftly touching the strings and Zdan is free to let loose and wail, as she does on Sometimes I get a Little Lonely. - Uptown Magazine June 24, 2004

Brandy Zdan’s voice is rich, textured, and trained. And her musical education shows in Sometimes I Get a Little Lonely and Gershwin’s Summertime. She is bluesy, earthy, and real. Dave Quanbury’s lyrics and tunes offer hope. Impatient Love is a song that rightly qualifies for the country blues brand affixed by local reviewers. And his Twilight Hotel deftly captures the pathos and poverty of every skid row dive. - Penguin Eggs Online November 2004 By Les Pearson
